2007-2008 Season

Face-to-Face - Britten and MacMillan

Continuing their highly successful concert pairings of distinct, yet similar, composers, Meistersingers presents another comparison: England's Benjamin Britten, from the mid-20th century, and the young, brilliant composer from Scotland, James MacMillan. Each will be showcased with their most exciting and difficult, works for a cappella choir and choir with organ. Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb, with text by the 'committed' Christopher Smart, will be paired with James MacMillan's extremely haunting and powerful Cantos Sagrados. Also on the program will be their most cherished secular compositions for a cappella choir - Britten's Five Flower Songs and, a Meistersingers favorite, MacMillan's Gallant Weaver. Do not miss this incredible, "face-to-face"comparison of these phenomenal composers.
All concerts are given free of charge.
